How it started – ‘Amity’, formerly known under his childhood nickname ‘Semsie’, is a DJ/producer/promoter and radio presenter from Bristol, UK. His passion for Electronic Dance Music developed at an early age while collecting early rave tapes from the 90′s. As his interest grew, so did his desire to become involved within the music scene. At the age of 15, Amity decided to purchase his first set of Technic 1210 decks and mixer. He spent most of his time collecting vinyl and learning the art of beat matching and mixing.
As time went on and his love for music grew, Amity wanted to start producing his own music and crafting his own unique sound. At the age of seventeen, Amity applied to study at Access To Music, Bristol, where he studied Music Technology for three years. The course at Access To Music allowed him to develop the fundamental knowledge he was after in sequencing and production.
In 2010, Amity started his own radio show on the Bristol community radio station ‘BCFM 93.2’; this was called ‘Permission To Dance’. The show specialized in House and Trance and took place every Friday and Saturday night. Amity successfully managed the show throughout 2010 where he continued to develop the brand ‘Permission To Dance’. Sadly, in 2011, the show came to a stop. This was due to Amity wanting to further develop his knowledge in the music industry by taking a degree in ‘Creative Music Technology’. From successfully managing his radio show, Amity has developed fundamental knowledge and experiences in presenting, interviewing, script writing, feature making, researching, scheduling, operating the desk and even jingle production.
Currently – Amity is an undergraduate student, studying ‘Creative Music Technology’, at Bath Spa University. Although most of Amity’s time is taken up by coursework and his part time job, he is currently pushing himself as both a solo artist and DJ under the name DJ Amity. He has recently been made resident DJ for Intuition, an event held at Timbuk2, Bristol, on a monthly basis. Amity is also involved with the event promotion for the event. Amity also gets booked for various other events at Timbuk2. He has also played at various other clubs around Bristol, such as: Native, Elbow Rooms and Space 72 (previously known as Castros).
On top of all this, Amity has formed a duo within the Drum & Bass scene, with fellow producer ‘Joevirus’, called ‘Dual Osc’. They collaborate on a regular basis and are always trying to further develop their sound. To check out their music, click here.
